Aitana Bonmati is set to be on the sidelines until at least April after suffering a leg break in training with Spain.

Aitana Bonmati is expected to be sidelined for five months after undergoing surgery on a broken leg.

The Ballon d'Or winner landed awkwardly during a training session with Spain on Sunday, and the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) subsequently confirmed she had fractured her left fibula.

Bonmati returned to Barcelona for treatment instead of staying with Spain, having initially wanted to remain with her team-mates ahead of their Nations League final second leg against Germany on Tuesday.

She is set to miss the majority of the rest of the domestic season, though she could return for the run-in, with the Liga F season finishing the week after the Champions League final, should Barcelona get there, on May 22.

"Bonmati has undergone successful surgery on a fractured fibula in her left leg," Barca announced in a statement.

"The procedure was performed by Dr. Antoni Dalmau at Hospital Barcelona under the supervision of the club's medical services. The expected recovery time is around five months."

Bonmati has made 15 appearances in all competitions for Barcelona in 2025-26, scoring six goals, all in Liga F.

Barca were domestic treble winners last term and will be looking to achieve the same feat again this term.

Spain, meanwhile, are looking to retain their Nations League title against Germany, having drawn the first leg 0-0 on Friday.
