'We are going to rally' – Ampadu determined to turn Leeds' form around

'We are going to rally' Ampadu determined to turn Leeds' form around

Bagikan

After a heartbreaking defeat to Fulham in their last Premier League match, Leeds United will be hoping to return to winning ways at Wolves.

Ethan Ampadu insisted that Leeds United will rally together and push for results after their defeat to Fulham last time out.

Although they were the more threatening side for large parts of the match, Leeds fell to a 1-0 loss at Craven Cottage after a 94th-minute own goal from Gabriel Gudmundsson.

Leeds restricted Fulham to just five shots in the encounter, their fewest on record (since 2003-04) for a Premier League home match they went on to win.

And despite showing promise at the attacking end against Fulham, the Whites have scored just one goal in the Premier League so far this season, with this being their fewest after four games of a league campaign in the club's history.

Ampadu is determined to build on the positives from that defeat, though, as Leeds look to turn their fortunes around at Wolves on Saturday.

"It is the Premier League, home or away, no game is easy," said Ampadu after the Fulham defeat.

"It is the league that we want to thrive in. It is the league that we want to show ourselves in and next week is an opportunity to do that.

"We want to change the result so we are going to push, we are going to rally and we are going to keep going.

"But there is a lot in that performance that we can take as a baseline for the rest of the season with us.

"Obviously, at the end, the end result is what matters so we are hurt, we are gutted but it is a very long season.

"We have got stuff to improve on, we have got stuff to take on but we are going to enjoy the ride."

Wolves, meanwhile, are currently bottom of the Premier League and are the only side yet to win a point in the competition this season.

After their 1-0 loss to Newcastle United last time out, Wolves have started a league campaign with four consecutive defeats for the first time in their 127-year English league football history.

However, Ladislav Krejci, who made his Wolves debut against Newcastle, believes they will start to win soon if they can perform how they did at St. James' Park.

"I believe if we continue with the same mentality, pushing till the end, we will start winning," said Krejci.

"If we score at the beginning it can be different game. But we never know, we take it as a negative from the game and keep going, keep pushing.

"I'm so glad for the opportunity from the coach, from the club. I'm glad also from the teammates, how they helped me, but unfortunately the last thing, what is most important, is the dropping the points, not winning."

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Wolves – Hwang Hee-chan

With Jorgen Strand Larsen's availability still in doubt, Hwang Hee-chan is likely to lead the Wolves frontline again.

The forward scored in their defeat to Everton before the international break, but has only found the net three times since the start of last season, compared to his 12 goals in the 2023-24 campaign.

Leeds United – Anton Stach

Anton Stach has made a strong impact in Leeds' midfield following his transfer from Hoffenheim in the summer.

He is the only player to record double figures for both shots (10) and chances created (10) in the Premier League so far this season. However, he is yet to register a goal or assist.

MATCH PREDICTION – WOLVES WIN

Wolves have won eight of their last 10 Premier League matches against newly promoted clubs (one draw, one loss), winning each of their last four in a row. They last won five top-flight games in a row against promoted sides between March 1963 and February 1964, though this winning run came to an end with a defeat against Leeds.

However, Wolves have lost eight of their last nine home Premier League matches in August and September (one win), conceding 28 goals at Molineux across these nine games.

Wolves will be looking to avoid becoming the sixth Premier League team to start a campaign with five consecutive losses after Southampton in 1998-99 (five), Sunderland in 2005-06 (five), Portsmouth in 2009-10 (seven), Crystal Palace in 2017-18 (seven) and Norwich in 2021-22 (six).

Leeds have won each of their last three league games against Wolves, last winning four in a row in February 1971 under Don Revie.

It is set to be another low-scoring match for both sides as Leeds' league games this season have seen fewer shots on target than any other side (19), with the Whites having the fewest (eight) and facing the joint-third fewest attempts on target (11).

Having beaten Everton 1-0 on the opening weekend, Leeds have now failed to score in their last three Premier League games. They last went four without a goal in March 2022.

OPTA WIN PROBABILITY

Wolves – 48.7%

Draw – 25.7%

Leeds United – 25.6%
