Despite a 2-1 defeat to Manchester United on Sunday, Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner remains confident in his side.

Oliver Glasner believes that Crystal Palace “will play a great season again” as they prepare for their trip to Burnley.

The Eagles lost 2-1 to Manchester United on Sunday, which followed a defeat to Strasbourg in the Conference League last week by the same scoreline.

Palace are now ninth in the Premier League, but just five points behind second-place Manchester City after 13 games.

Glasner’s first game in charge of Palace was a 3-0 win over Burnley in 2024, with Jean-Philippe Mateta, Chris Richards and Jordan Ayew getting on the scoresheet.

Palace’s boss reminisced on that fixture while insisting that their busy schedule will not impact them as much as people think.

“Yes it feels like a long time ago,” said Glasner when asked about that fixture. “How many games have I managed for Palace since then? I think it's more than 80.

“It feels really far, far away. But of course I can remember Vincent Kompany was their manager and it was our first game at home at Selhurst.

“We had just two days of preparation and, of course, we managed to win 3-0.

“That was a great start. A very warm welcome at Selhurst. I will always remember. But yes, it feels a long time ago.

“I know we will play a great season again. We are still better in the points difference last season to this season.

“And although everyone talks about fatigue, the running numbers were even better than Manchester United, who could rest for a whole week [before the game].”

Burnley looked to be picking up momentum after back-to-back wins over Wolves and Leeds United in October, but they are now on a four-game losing run.

They suffered a 3-1 defeat to Brentford last time out, with all four goals in the match occurring after the 80th minute.

Burnley forward Zian Flemming admitted recent results have been difficult to take, but insisted they will continue to fight to retain their Premier League status.

“We've got mixed feelings at the moment,” said Flemming.

“We made a decent start to the season, beating those teams we perhaps envisaged being around us, playing well and picking up some good results.

“We were disappointed with how things played out at West Ham - the game was in our hands, we let that one slip - and Brentford last weekend, we again felt we could have got more out of it.

“But it's a long season, we're taking it game by game, and we're determined to pick up some positive results.”

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Burnley – Zian Flemming

Flemming scored from the penalty spot in Burnley's loss to Brentford, registering his fourth goal in 10 league games this season.

All four of those goals have come in his last five games, including a brace against Wolves at Molineux.

Crystal Palace – Jean-Philippe Mateta

Mateta has scored six goals in his last eight Premier League appearances against newly promoted clubs for Palace.

He also scored a penalty in the Eagles’ most recent fixture against United, taking his tally in the league this season to seven from 13 games.

MATCH PREDICTION: CRYSTAL PALACE WIN

Palace have lost just one of their last 17 Premier League games against promoted sides (W10 D6) and are unbeaten in 10 since a 2-1 loss at Luton Town in November 2023 (W6 D4).

The Eagles also won both of their top-flight meetings with Burnley in 2023-24, having been winless in five against the Clarets before that (D2 L3).

Both of Burnley’s home Premier League wins this season have been against their fellow newly promoted clubs, Sunderland and Leeds.

The Clarets have won one of their last 23 at Turf Moor against teams not in their first season after promotion (D4 L18), a 2-1 win over Brentford in March 2024.

Burnley boss Scott Parker lost his only other home Premier League match against Palace in October 2020 with Fulham and overall has suffered 21 defeats in 33 home games, the worst losing ratio (64%) of any manager to take charge of 20+ home games in the competition’s history.
