Amorim: Manchester United need more quality

Following a goalless draw to Leeds United in their pre-season opener, Ruben Amorim wants more quality added to his Manchester United squad.
Ruben Amorim knows Manchester United must add more “quality” to their squad in order to meet their goals for the season.
The Red Devils started their pre-season with a goalless draw against rivals Leeds United in Sweden, with a trip to the United States next on their agenda.
United were the more threatening side in the match, accumulating 1.77 expected goals from 19 shots while conceding just four shots at the other end.
Amorim is pleased with the atmosphere in the squad but is adamant the club must add more reinforcements if they want to succeed next season.
“I felt the environment is very good,” Amorim told MUTV. “Of course, at times we are going to struggle but what I feel from the first moment is that if we are going to struggle, we are going to struggle together and that is the beginning of everything.
“And then we have to put [in] the quality but this club is not just about the effort. It’s the quality and you have to win games.
“We have a lack of pace, especially in the middle of the park. And you can feel it is hard to win the ball. But we created chances.”
United’s summer signing and new number 10 Matheus Cunha made his debut in Stockholm.
The Brazilian struggled to make an impact in the final third, failing to register a shot or create a chance. He did also not manage a single touch in the opposition box.
However, Amorim was not disheartened by Cunha’s performance, believing the attacker will need time to build connections with those around him.
Amorim added: “I think Matheus Cunha showed what we need. That he is a player when he receives the ball between the lines can be really aggressive in the direction of the opponents.
“We watched that during last season in a different team so we expect the same thing. Of course, you can see the connection between him and Bruno is still not there but it’s going to be a good connection.”
Although Amorim is focused on incoming players at the club, he is set to have one significant outgoing.
Marcus Rashford is reportedly close to leaving his boyhood club, with Barcelona finalising a loan deal with an option to buy.
