Everton 1-4 Newcastle United: Thiaw scores twice as emphatic win ends poor road run in style
Newcastle United ended their wait for an away win in the Premier League with an emphatic victory over Everton at Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Malick Thiaw scored twice as Newcastle United ran riot in a 4-1 hammering of Everton on Saturday.
Newcastle went to Hill Dickinson Stadium in search of their first away win in the Premier League this season, and they claimed it in sensational fashion.
Thiaw headed them in front after just 55 seconds, before a blunder from Jordan Pickford saw Lewis Miley's strike squirm through the Everton goalkeeper in the 25th minute.
Lewis Hall hit the crossbar before Nick Woltemade deftly made it 3-0 on the stroke of half-time as Everton, shorn of the suspended Idrissa Gueye, crumbled.
Thiaw then doubled up with another towering header in the 58th minute, not long after Everton substitute Carlos Alcaraz had rattled the woodwork.
Thierno Barry saw what he thought was his first Everton goal disallowed for an accidental handball, though Everton did grab a consolation when Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall brilliantly brought down James Tarkowski's pass and prodded home.

Without Gueye, Everton's midfield offered little protection, but even so, Michael Keane, Tarkowski, Jake O'Brien and Vitaliy Mykolenko hardly covered themselves in glory, with Newcastle having eight shots on target from 13 attempts in total.
Pickford hardly helped Everton's cause, either, as the Toffees conceded four goals in a Premier League home game for the first time since April 2023, when they also went down 1-4 to Newcastle.
But Newcastle will care little for Everton's woes. They were inspired by Thiaw, whose goal was the fastest in the competition this season. The defender became the first player to score his first Premier League goal in the opening minute of a match since Kenedy for Chelsea against Norwich in March 2016.
Thiaw was excellent defensively, too, making five clearances (a tally bettered by only Dan Burn among his club-mates), while winning a team-leading seven duels.
