Paris Saint-Germain lost ground in the Ligue 1 title race after losing 1-0 to Monaco, and Lucas Chevalier believes the result was fair.

Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier believes they did not "deserve much" in their 1-0 defeat to Monaco.

The reigning Ligue 1 champions were downed by Takumi Minamino's second-half strike at Stade Louis II, meaning both Marseille and Lens could move above them in the league this weekend.

PSG have now failed to score in two different Ligue 1 matches in 2025-26 (also 0-1 at Marseille), which is already more than in the whole of last season (0-0 at Auxerre in December 2024).

They have also suffered two defeats after 14 Ligue 1 matches in 2025-26 (W9 D3), their highest tally at this stage since 2020-21, when they finished second in the league (four). Under the ownership of QSI, PSG have only ever recorded fewer points after 14 Ligue 1 matches (30) in 2012-13 (26) and 2020-21 (28).

Speaking in interviews with Ligue 1+ and BeIN Sport, Chevalier explained why he felt PSG were below their usual standards against their rivals.

"There were quite a few things that didn't go our way today. We lacked impact, we lost possession a bit silly. I think we weren't at 100%," said Chevalier.

"Monaco were a bit sharper. We pushed hard in the last 10 minutes but it wasn't enough. We've had a lot of injuries since the start of the season, we're playing a lot of games in quick succession. It's a different season compared to last season.

"I don't think we deserved much today. We came up against a good team, and I think we didn't put enough effort into every aspect of the game.

"Against European teams, teams like Monaco, sometimes it's tough with the run of matches. We have to use this experience for the future."

PSG have won only two of their last six Ligue 1 away games (D2 L2), after failing to win only five of their previous 24 league away games (W19 D4 L1).

Head coach Luis Enrique was far from impressed with their performance on Saturday, believing his side were not at the level needed to win football matches.

Speaking to BeIN Sport, Luis Enrique said: "When you play a match like that with so many inaccuracies and errors, it's impossible to win.

"That's how it is, we have to accept the level we showed today. I need to watch the match again to really analyse it."
