The Portland Timbers were no match for their hosts on Sunday, as San Diego FC booked their spot in the Western Conference semi-finals.

Anders Dreyer and Amahl Pellegrino scored doubles as San Diego FC beat the Portland Timbers 4-0 to continue their fantastic first season in MLS.

San Diego set the expansion-club record for wins (19) and points (63) in the regular season, and they are now into the Western Conference semi-finals.

Dreyer opened the scoring in the fifth minute at Snapdragon Stadium, volleying home from point-blank range.

Pellegrino bundled home at the second attempt 12 minutes later, before doubling his tally with a fantastic finish early in the second half.

Dreyer moved onto 22 goals for the season when he finished first time from Hirving Lozano's centre in the 79th minute.

A dismal day for Portland, and a glorious one for San Diego, was capped off when Phil Neville's team were reduced to 10 men late on, as Juan Mosquera saw red for reacting badly to a challenge from Lozano.

While Portland must lick their wounds heading into the offseason, San Diego will ready themselves for a clash with Minnesota United later in November.

Data Debrief: Pellegrino produces again

Dreyer has been San Diego's star man this season, and the forward was typically impressive, having three shots and creating a team-leading four chances.

However, Pellegrino has certainly stepped up to be counted too.

Pellegrino has provided nine goal contributions (six goals, three assists) in his last five games. Only Lionel Messi has provided more goal contributions since the start of October.

The 35-year-old had a game-leading five shots, hitting the target with all of them.
