Dumfries withdraws from Netherlands' Nations League squad

Ajax's Youri Baas has replaced Denzel Dumfries in the Netherlands' Nations League squad for their quarter-final double header against Spain.

Denzel Dumfries has been ruled out of the Netherlands' Nations League quarter-final against Spain this week after picking up an injury with Inter at the weekend.

Dumfries was replaced by Yann Bisseck in the 66th minute of Inter's 2-0 win over Atalanta on Sunday, a result that moved them three points clear at the summit of the standings.

The 28-year-old, who has made 63 appearances for the Netherlands, has reportedly picked up a hamstring strain and will stay with the Italian club to accelerate his recovery.

Ronald Koeman has chosen to replace Dumfries with Ajax's Youri Baas, who has established himself in the first team under Francesco Farioli, in the 24-man squad.

Brighton's Mats Wieffer has also been given a late call-up after Frenkie de Jong missed Barcelona's 4-2 win over title rivals Atletico Madrid with stomach problems.

De Jong joined up with the squad but did not feature in training on Monday.

Wieffer himself only recently returned to action after limping off against West Ham United in December, playing just 69 minutes of action across five outings across all competitions.

Spain, meanwhile, will be without Barcelona duo Marc Casado and Inigo Martinez for the two-legged clash.

The Netherlands host Spain in the first leg of their quarter-final tie in Rotterdam on Thursday with the return taking place in Valencia on Sunday.
