Vincent Kompany expected a one-game suspension for Luis Diaz, but the Bayern Munich winger will miss three Champions League matches.

Luis Diaz will miss Bayern Munich's next three Champions League games.

Vincent Kompany had been expecting a one-match suspension for Diaz, who was sent off for a rash challenge on Paris Saint-Germain's Achraf Hakimi in Bayern's last game in the competition on November 4.

However, Diaz, who had scored twice against PSG before his red card, has in fact been handed a full, three-match ban by UEFA.

Diaz will now miss Bayern's matches against Arsenal, Sporting CP and Union Saint-Gilloise. He will be able to feature in their final league phase fixture, against PSV on January 28.

"My information is that he’s suspended for one game," Kompany had said on Friday, ahead of Bayern's Bundesliga meeting with Freiburg.

"I’d be really disappointed if it turned out my information wasn’t correct."

Diaz has already scored 11 goals and provided five assists in 17 appearances for Bayern this season, since joining from Liverpool in the summer.

He has also created 31 chances, a tally bettered by only Michael Olise (33) and Joshua Kimmich (32) among his team-mates.

Bayern sit top of the Champions League standings as one of three teams, along with Arsenal and last season's runners-up Inter, on 12 points.
