Newcastle United have completed their first signing of the summer window, welcoming Nottingham Forest's Anthony Elanga to St. James' Park.

Newcastle United have completed the signing of Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga on a long-term deal.

Elanga, who played a starring role for Nuno Espirito Santo's side last season, has joined the Magpies for a reported £55m transfer fee.

The 23-year-old registered 17 goal involvements (six goals, 11 assists) for Forest in the Premier League in 2024-25 as they finished seventh in the standings.

Indeed, only Mohamed Salah (18) and Jacob Murphy (12) had more assists in the Premier League than Elanga last year.

It was also the most assists by a Forest player in a top flight campaign since 1994-95, when Bryan Roy managed 11.

Elanga joined Forest in 2023, going on to make 82 appearances across all competitions for the club, scoring 11 goals and providing 21 assists.

Indeed, since his arrival at the City Ground, only Chris Wood (38) has more goal involvements than Elanga (31) in the Premier League for Forest.

Elanga became Newcastle's first signing of the summer window, providing competition in the wide areas for Anthony Gordon, Harvey Barnes and Murphy.

"I'm excited, I'm really happy but most importantly I'm ready," Elanga told Newcastle's official website.

"I'm ready to put on this black and white top to really fight for this team and give everything for the passionate fanbase that lives and breathes football.

"I had an amazing two years at Nottingham Forest. They really helped me to become the player I am today, but I'm really happy to be here now.

"The club won a trophy last season and are building something unique, something special that I really want to be part of.

"I really want to buy into the culture, into the DNA of this club. I'm really happy to be here and I can't wait to get started."

Elanga's exit from the City Ground comes after reports on Friday emerged that Forest are considering action against Tottenham over their pursuit of Morgan Gibbs-White.

Gibbs-White was expected to complete a medical with Spurs after they activated his £60m release clause, but Forest believe they approached the midfielder illegally.
