Manchester City earned a fifth consecutive win in the Women's Super League, while consigning Gareth Taylor to a fifth straight loss.

Aoba Fujino denied former Manchester City boss Gareth Taylor a first Women's Super League point with Liverpool after completing a 2-1 comeback for the visitors at Anfield.

Iman Beney had cancelled out Cornelia Kapocs' opener in the second half, but Liverpool could not hold out for the draw as their losing start to the season continued.

City started strongly, with Vivianne Miedema seeing a dipping shot tipped over the bar by Rafaela Borggrafe before she was denied again by the German's outstretched leg shortly after.

Borggrafe also kept out Kerstin Casparij, Aoba Fujino and Khadija Shaw in the first half as Liverpool failed to mount a threat.

However, the Reds improved after the break, taking the lead in the 52nd minute. Kapocs met Ceri Holland's brilliant cross at the far post and stooped to nod it past Ayaka Yamashita.

City found their equaliser 12 minutes later, with Beney rifling into the roof of the net from a tight angle on the right, pouncing on Shaw's saved header.

Borgraffe again kept out Shaw, but it was Fujino who would clinch the victory, as she fired a low shot past the goalkeeper after latching onto Sydney Lohmann's throughball.

There was late drama, though, as Gemma Bonner smashed the ball into the net from the edge of the six-yard box in the final seconds after Holland's free-kick was spilled by Yamashita, but her celebrations were cut short by the offside flag.

Data Debrief: Taylor comes unstuck against former club

Liverpool struggled for large parts of Sunday's game, having just one shot in total – though that did lead to their goal. They had gone nearly seven hours without scoring since Kapocs scored on the opening weekend against Everton.

Taylor, who was facing City for the first time since being sacked in March, has lost all five of his matches in charge of Liverpool. He lost just five of his final 32 games in charge of the Citizens.

And Liverpool have now dropped six points from winning positions in the WSL this season, more than any other side.

Andree Jeglertz's side will feel it was a deserved win (their fifth in a row), having had 13 shots, eight of which were on target. They created 1.67 expected goals (xG) against an inspired Borggrafe, while Liverpool generated just 0.17 xG.
