Atletico Madrid strike Almada agreement with Botafogo

Argentina international Thiago Almada, who impressed on loan at Lyon last season, is set to join Spanish giants Atletico Madrid.

Atletico Madrid have struck an agreement with Botafogo to sign Thiago Almada.

The Argentina international spent the second half of the 2024-25 season on loan at Lyon, having joined Botafogo in 2024.

Almada, who was part of Argentina's squad at the 2022 World Cup, had been a star in MLS with Atlanta United.

The 24-year-old made 20 appearances for Lyon in all competitions during his loan spell, starting 11 times and scoring twice. He also provided four assists, creating 24 chances in total.

Almada will now join Spanish giants Atletico, subject to a successful medical.

He is set to become Atletico's third summer signing, following the arrivals of Alex Baena and Matteo Ruggeri from Villarreal and Atalanta respectively.
