Middlesbrough were displaced at the top of the Championship after Coventry City found a way past Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.

Coventry City surged back to the Championship summit after a fourth win in a row, sweeping Blackburn Rovers aside 2-0 on Saturday.

Frank Lampard's side have won their last four league outings by an aggregate score of 14-0, lifting them one point clear of Middlesbrough, who edged out Ipswich Town on Friday.

Victor Torp and Brandon Thomas-Asante scored twice in the space of three second-half minutes to snatch another almighty victory at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

Stoke City are just four points back from the leaders in third, having edged out Wrexham 1-0 in an otherwise uneventful clash.

Sorba Thomas' 36th-minute strike proved the difference for Mark Robins' side as Wrexham were left 18th after a fourth Championship game without victory, since beating Norwich City 3-2 away from home last month.

Hull City claimed all three points in the pick of Saturday's action, ending Birmingham City's 29-game unbeaten run at home in the league with a thrilling 3-2 triumph.

An ill-tempered meeting first saw Jack Robinson turn Kyle Joseph's effort into his own net just 11 minutes in, before Regan Slater brilliantly headed Hull back in front after Jay Stansfield levelled in the first half.

A mindless Robinson was then dismissed on the hour for dissent towards referee Ruebyn Ricardo, who also brandished nine yellow cards, with seven of those going to Sergej Jakirovic's spirited visitors.

Joe Gelhardt tucked home in the third minute of stoppage time to seal the win, with Stansfield's 96th-minute penalty proving redundant in front of a frustrated St. Andrew's crowd.

Further down the table, struggling Sheffield United registered their first home win of the season with a 1-0 victory over Watford, whose first outing of Javi Gracia's return as boss did not go to plan.

Callum O'Hare scored the only goal of the game in the 59th minute as United climbed into 23rd and above rivals Sheffield Wednesday, who were left bottom after a 2-1 defeat at Charlton Athletic.

Data Debrief: Cool-hand Coventry

Lampard continued his early charge towards the Premier League as Coventry made it five clean sheets in a row in the Championship for the first time since October 2001 under Ronald Nilsson.

Coventry only accumulated 0.86 expected goals (xG) to Blackburn's 1.02 but a superior quality of finishing proved the difference for the league leaders.

Just a short trip away from Coventry, Birmingham are now winless in their last four second-tier games after Hull made it six league trips to St. Andrew's without defeat.
