Juventus great Gianluigi Buffon believes former Napoli and Italy coach Luciano Spalletti would be a smart choice to replace Igor Tudor.

Luciano Spalletti would be an ideal choice as the new Juventus head coach, so says club legend Gianluigi Buffon.

Spalletti is reportedly a prime candidate to join Juve, who sacked Igor Tudor on Monday.

Tudor only took charge in March, yet an eight-game winless streak saw Juve part company with the Croatian.

Spalletti guided Napoli to the Serie A title in 2023, but then endured an underwhelming stint in charge of Italy.

However, Buffon feels the 66-year-old would be an excellent appointment.

"For me, Luciano is the right profile for any big club that wants to remain ambitious. You won’t lose many with Luciano," Buffon said at the closing ceremony of the Corriere dello Sport centenary event, via Football Italia.

"It would be a great professional choice.

"He’s a football man, he’s a great person and a great coach.

"Spalletti is the best around in terms of experience, charisma and authority. He’s the right person for ambitious clubs who want to remain ambitious. It’s a shame seeing him not in the dugout."

Juve are back in action on Wednesday when they go up against Udinese in Serie A.
