Jeremie Frimpong did not understate the size of filling Trent Alexander-Arnold's boots at Liverpool, but is ready to face that task head on.

Jeremie Frimpong believes he has what it takes to fill the "big boots" left by Trent Alexander-Arnold at Liverpool.

Just hours after Alexander-Arnold's move to Real Madrid was confirmed, the Premier League champions moved quickly to bring Frimpong to Anfield from Bayer Leverkusen.

The Reds triggered the 24-year-old's €35m (£29.5m) release clause, and he became the club's first signing of the summer window.

Frimpong played an integral role in helping Leverkusen to their first Bundesliga title in 2023-24 and made 53 appearances in all competitions as they finished second in 2024-25.

Indeed, the Dutch international has scored more goals (19) than any other defender in Europe's top five leagues in all competitions since the start of the 2023-24 campaign.

Frimpong can operate as a full-back or a winger, and will look to provide the attacking creativity Alexander-Arnold did during his stellar stint on Merseyside.

Alexander-Arnold left Liverpool having made 354 appearances across all competitions, playing a key role in the Reds' two Premier League title wins and 2019 Champions League success.

No other defender in Premier League history has provided as many assists in the competition as Alexander-Arnold (64), while he also recorded 82 goal contributions in the top flight, trailing only Leighton Baines (85) among defenders.

"It's big shoes, but it's Liverpool. It's a big team who win trophies for a reason," Frimpong told Sky Sports. "If you play for Liverpool you have to fill in the shoes and perform. I've always believed in myself. I'm a winner. That's what I'll bring."

"The Premier League is the best league in the world. I grew up in Manchester so I always wanted to come back. It was always the plan.

"I know what being a champion is like at Bayer Leverkusen, so joining a champion team is a privilege, especially for Liverpool. To go from watching them to playing for them is crazy.

"The manager has told me how I can help the team and he really likes me as a player. It's given me extra motivation and belief."

Frimpong is not the only arrival at Liverpool from Leverkusen this summer, with the Reds completing a club-record deal to bring Florian Wirtz to Anfield earlier this week.

Wirtz was also a pivotal figure for the Werkself under Xabi Alonso, making 119 appearances under the Spaniard, while scoring 38 goals and providing 43 assists.

With his friend joining him as a new Liverpool player, Frimpong is excited for fans to see what a special talent the German international is.

"He's my boy. He's a winner - a very, very special player and very hard-working. The league will love him," Frimpong added.

"I won't have to talk much, just watch him. He doesn't crumble under pressure, he likes pressure. He's a guy that makes you enjoy football with the way he plays."
