Florian Wirtz won a league-and-cup double during his time with Bayer Leverkusen, and is aiming high after joining Liverpool.

Florian Wirtz insists he has not joined Liverpool "to have fun", highlighting his ambition to "win everything" at Anfield.

The Germany international completed his long-awaited blockbuster move from Bayer Leverkusen on Friday for a reported club-record fee of £100m, potentially rising to £116m.

After coming through the youth ranks at Leverkusen, Wirtz made 197 appearances for the club in all competitions, scoring 57 goals, while helping them win the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal under Xabi Alonso in 2023-24.

Wirtz now hopes to add to his silverware haul with Liverpool, having reportedly turned down Bayern Munich and Manchester City in favour of joining the Premier League champions.

"I just thought that it was the right point in my career to make the next step and, of course, I wanted to get to a club that is [one of] the top three in the world," he told the club's official website.

"In my opinion, Liverpool was one of them.

"I just saw myself in the best hands in Liverpool. I was really convinced by the people here, by the idea, and everything that the club offered me was really good. In the end, [it was] also easy to be excited for me to come to Liverpool.

"I'm not coming [to] have fun here, I also want to achieve something and give the fans what they deserve. I would like to win everything every year!

"In the end, we want to be successful. Last season, they won the Premier League, so my goal is, for sure, to win it again and also to go further in the Champions League [after reaching the round of 16 last term]. I'm really ambitious."

Wirtz was directly involved in 30 goals in the Bundesliga last term, with his tally of 14 assists bettered only by Bayern Munich's Michael Olise (15) in the German top flight.

In the past two Bundesliga campaigns, the 22-year-old completed the most dribbles among all players in the competition (161), having attempted 446.
