Ashley Young will attempt to help Ipswich Town back into the Premier League next season, having arrived on a free transfer from Everton.

Ipswich Town have signed former England international Ashley Young on a free transfer ahead of their return to the Championship.

The Tractor Boys will be plying their trade in the second tier in 2025-26 after being relegated from the top-flight last term, and in a bid to strengthen their squad, they have turned to a player with nearly 750 club appearances under his belt.

Young left Everton when his contract expired at the end of last season, having spent two seasons at Goodison Park.

He made 485 Premier League appearances with Watford (20), Aston Villa (210), Manchester United (192) and the Toffees (63), scoring 49 goals and supplying 73 assists.

Young has penned a one-year contract at Portman Road, and Kieran McKenna feels the 40-year-old – who also won Serie A with Inter in 2020-21 – is a huge coup for the club.

"Ashley has had a fantastic career and his achievements speak for themselves," McKenna said.

"He has maintained an extremely high level of professionalism and competitiveness through his career, and he is still playing at a very good level.

"We feel his leadership and experience will be valuable to the group this season, and he is very hungry to contribute on and off the pitch. It's a very strong signing for the group and the club."
