With Genoa in trouble at the bottom of Serie A, Daniele De Rossi takes over as head coach in time for their crunch clash with Fiorentina.

Daniele De Rossi has been announced as Genoa's new head coach.

Genoa sacked Patrick Vieira on Saturday following their winless start to the Serie A campaign after just under a year in charge.

And now they have announced Roma legend De Rossi as his replacement, with Italian media suggesting he has signed a short-term deal through to the end of the season.

De Rossi's appointment comes in time for Genoa's clash on Sunday with Fiorentina, who are also in search of a new manager after dismissing Stefano Pioli on Tuesday.

The club confirmed De Rossi will oversee Thursday's training session before his official presentation on Friday.

Under Vieira, Genoa lost six of their first nine Serie A matches in 2025-26; however, they earned their first win of the campaign on Monday, beating Sassuolo 2-1. De Rossi takes over with the side in 18th on six points.

This will be the Italian's third managerial job, having previously led SPAL in Serie B, where he lasted just four months between October 2022 and February 2023.

He then took charge at Roma, where he made 616 appearances in all competitions as a player, replacing Jose Mourinho in January 2024.

De Rossi took charge of 30 matches in total, leading with a win rate of 46.7%, and led the team to the Europa League final in 2023-24 before losing to Bayer Leverkusen.

However, he was sacked after four matches of the 2024-25 Serie A season after failing to pick up a single win.
