Brentford left it late to salvage a point in their 2-2 draw with Chelsea, with Fabio Carvalho excited by the future under Keith Andrews.

Fabio Carvalho believes that Keith Andrews is "making his mark" during his early tenure at Brentford following the Bees' late heroics against Chelsea on Saturday.

Carvalho netted the equaliser in Brentford's 2-2 draw with Chelsea at Gtech Community Stadium, despite falling behind late on to Moises Caicedo's stunning finish.

Kevin Schade had opened the scoring after racing on to Jordan Henderson's inch-perfect pass, only for Cole Palmer to mark his return from injury with a goal to restore parity.

But Carvalho's late finish ensured a share of the spoils for Brentford, who sit 12th in the early Premier League standings after taking four points from their first four games.

The former Liverpool forward has made a habit of scoring late goals, with all six of his top-flight strikes coming in the 75th minute or later, with each of his last four coming after the 89th minute.

Carvalho's equaliser was also the seventh goal Brentford have scored from a throw in the Premier League since the start of last season, at least five more than any other side.

"Brentford are big on set-pieces and it's good to put that into practice. It's not as easy as it looks [to find space] but hopefully I can do that again," Carvalho told Sky Sports.

"We do a lot of analysis off the pitch with video and utilise it.

"Keith (Andrews) is making his mark with the staff as well and the team are on board. We've got enough quality to do well this season.

"I'm sure we will be ok - we've lost players but have added a lot of quality and as long as we stay together we'll be fine. Once we get momentum, we'll be good."

Brentford edged the expected goals (xG) metric against Chelsea, posting a total of 1.41 to the Blues' 1.22, despite having nine fewer shots than their opponents (seven to 16).

The Bees had lost three of their last five Premier League matches (W1 D1), as many as they'd lost in their previous 14 combined (W8 D3 L3) heading into the encounter, but Andrews was pleased by the character shown by his players.

"Delighted with the approach of the group, the character we constantly show," Andrews added.

"The equaliser came very late, but it's what I felt we deserved from the game in terms of the application, the quality the players showed for large parts.

"Inevitably they're going to have periods where they're on top, but I felt we dealt with a lot of that really well tonight."

For Chelsea, meanwhile, they missed the chance to make a statement and go top of the Premier League after Arsenal and Tottenham had won earlier on Saturday.

The Blues were unable to click into gear during the first half, with Enzo Maresca turning to his bench as he replaced Wesley Fofana, Facundo Buonanotte and Jamie Gittens at the break.

His team improved after the break, with Palmer's equaliser bringing up his 50th career club goal (44 for Chelsea, six for Manchester City), but just his fifth as a substitute.

Despite coming on in the 56th minute, the England international had more shots (five) than any other player in the game, with his 61st minute strike set up by Joao Pedro.

Indeed, the Brazilian has now been directly involved in five goals in four Premier League games for Chelsea (two goals, three assists), while the only player to reach five goal involvements in fewer games for the Blues in the competition is Eden Hazard (three games).

However, Maresca bemoaned Chelsea's inability to defend Brentford's equaliser from a set-piece, with that late setback serving as a reminder of what they must improve on, especially if they are to get positive results from their next two games, with trips to Bayern Munich and Manchester United coming up.

"We knew that it was a tough game. In the first half, we struggled to find solutions, the space, because they were defending very good," Maresca said.

"I think second half we were much better. It's a shame because we conceded in 93rd minute and we could manage better that moment.

"You have to be able to avoid transitions and set pieces - they scored from transitions and set pieces.

"It's something we deal quite well with during the game but in the end, we concede and it's a shame."
