Paris Saint-Germain registered 18 shots on goal against Athletic Club, but could not find the breakthrough at San Mames on Wednesday.

Luis Enrique felt Paris Saint-Germain "deserved to win" against Athletic Club, following their goalless draw at San Mames.

The Champions League holders dropped points for the second time in the competition this season (losing 2-1 to Bayern Munich on matchday four), despite dominating for long periods against their LaLiga opponents.

PSG generated a hefty xG of 2.05 from 18 shots, 13 of which were from inside the penalty area, with five on target.

Nevertheless, the breakthrough eluded Luis Enrique's side, with the head coach believing the visitors' performance was worthy of more than a single point.

"It was a different kind of match with this atmosphere against a team from pot four [in the draw]," the PSG boss said. "That means this match should have been easy, but we can see that in our draw, there are no easy teams.

"I think we started the match well, there was no let-up. But in the second half, we were much better. They were a little more tired and we could have won the match. They played well, they pressed, but I think we deserved to win."

PSG sit third in the table with 13 points, one ahead of ninth-place Liverpool, and will play Sporting (away) and Newcastle United (home) in their final two games next month.

"We gave it our all, as always. I think that all we were missing was a goal," Joao Neves added. "But that's how it is, that's football. We always have to learn and improve for the next match.

"It was a good match, with a lot of intensity," Nuno Mendes continued. "I think we were good in terms of attitude and aggression. But then, you have to score goals, and we didn't manage to do that."
