Luka Modric made his final Real Madrid appearance as he came on from the bench during Wednesday's 4-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain.

Xabi Alonso rued a "bitter end" for Luka Modric, who has made his final Real Madrid appearance.

Modric came on from the bench in the second half at MetLife Stadium on Wednesday, as Madrid slumped out of the Club World Cup with a 4-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain.

It brings the curtain down on a trophy-laden 13-year spell at Madrid for Modric, who joined the Spanish giants from Tottenham in 2012.

Modric bows out having played 597 matches for Madrid, winning 28 trophies, more titles than any other player in the club's illustrious history.

"It’s a bitter end, his last game," lamented Alonso.

"But apart from that, he’s been a legend of the club, a legend of football and I have been his team-mate, now his coach.

"He’s a great guy, and he’s going to be remembered forever in Madrid."

Modric is set to join AC Milan, with Massimiliano Allegri having confirmed the impending move.

Since Modric joined Madrid, Karim Benzema (515) is the only other player to have made over 500 appearances for the club.

Just Toni Kroos (93) and Benzema (118) have provided more assists for Madrid in the same timeframe than Modric (88), who created 842 goalscoring chances, trailing only Kroos (974).
