Bayern Munich came from behind to claim a dominant win over Freiburg on Saturday, impressing Vincent Kompany with their character.

Vincent Kompany hailed Bayern Munich’s quality and underlined their character after an emphatic comeback win over Freiburg on Saturday.

Bayern roared to a stunning 6-2 victory at the Allianz Arena, overturning a shock two-goal deficit suffered inside the opening 17 minutes.

Michael Olise produced a stellar performance, scoring twice and assisting three more as Bayern continued their unbeaten start to the season.

Further goals from Lennart Karl, Dayot Upamecano, Harry Kane, and Nicolas Jackson rounded off a confident win, helping the Bavarians extend their lead at the Bundesliga summit to eight points.

Reflecting on the performance, Kompany said: “I’m calm. In those phases, we made mistakes as a team.

“We must not hide. We have to show personality and character to defend such situations.

“We’re also strong from offensive set-pieces. We scored from a corner today. We just need to stay calm and keep working to get out of this phase and prove we’re good in that area too. I’m confident we’ll sort it out.

“Look, two players do something special in a difficult phase, and we get out of this situation. Then our momentum returns. It’s definitely down to quality, there’s no other way to describe it.”

The win means Bayern now sit atop the league table for the 43rd consecutive matchday — equalling the Bundesliga record they themselves set between 1972 and 1973.

Kane, who scored their fourth goal on the day, took pride in the resilience his side showed to fight back after a challenging opening period.

“We didn’t do well in the first 20 minutes, but then we showed character,” Kane said.

“The lead after half-time helped us, of course. We came out with a lot more energy in the second half. We did a really good job both on and off the ball and showed Bayern’s true colours. It was a really good victory.”

Looking forward to Bayern’s upcoming Champions League match against Arsenal, the former Tottenham striker added: “Arsenal make life difficult for their opponents, but we must analyse them and find out where we can hurt them.”
