Manchester City moved four points clear at the top of the Women's Super League, with Lauren Hemp starring against Manchester United.

Lauren Hemp has urged Manchester City to remain humble after Saturday's derby victory over Manchester United extended their lead at the Women's Super League summit.

City are four points clear of Chelsea at the top of the table after a convincing 3-0 victory at the Etihad Stadium, though the Blues could draw back within a single point when they visit Liverpool on Sunday.

Hemp scored a brilliant third goal for Andree Jeglertz's team in first-half stoppage time, firing home from range after Rebecca Knaak and Khadija Shaw had got on the scoresheet.

The England international was back in City's starting lineup after missing around a month and a half with an ankle injury, and she laid on three chances for her team-mates.

Only Viviane Miedema (four) created more, with the Netherlands international also the only player to contest more duels than Hemp's 11, with 13. Hemp also attempted more than three times as many crosses as any of her team-mates (10).

This is only the second time City have started a WSL season with as many as eight victories in their first nine matches, also doing so in 2017-18, but Hemp is not getting carried away.

"It's so exciting, but it's important we stay humble," Hemp told BBC Sport. "We know where we're at and we're in a good place as a team. Hopefully we'll continue this run."

On being back, the 25-year-old added: "I absolutely loved it. It's so nice to be back with all the girls. Today we showed the mentality that we needed to show.

"We got a clean sheet as well, which is so important for us and, most importantly, we got the three points."

Jeglertz's first Manchester derby at the helm was a roaring success, with the former Denmark boss most impressed by his team's defensive work.

He told BBC Sport: "It was fantastic. I wouldn't say I enjoyed it because it was so intense in the game. Just looking at the performance in general and the result, it's a great experience.

"I think we struggled a little bit in the last game with getting a solid defending part of the performance.

"For us to get a clean sheet and not concede that many opportunities to them is a big boost for the future."

City are next in action against Nottingham Forest in the League Cup, next Saturday, with their next WSL match coming against Leicester City on December 7.
