Jarell Quansah has become Erik ten Hags latest signing at Bayer Leverkusen after making the switch from Liverpool.

Bayer Leverkusen have completed the signing of Jarell Quansah from Liverpool.

The defender has joined Leverkusen on a five-year contract after the Bundesliga club paid a reported €40.7m (£35m).

Quansah, who joined Liverpool at academy-level at the age of five, made 58 senior appearances for the Reds on his way to winning the Premier League and EFL Cup.

Thirty of those appearances came in the league, in which he won 81.1% of his tackles and 58.4% of his duels. He also completed 89.4% of his passes and scored twice in the competition.

Quansah started in all of England’s matches in their successful campaign at the Under-21 Euros, and is excited to get started in Germany.

"I was able to get a good impression of the team and the club when Liverpool played Leverkusen in the Champions League last season," said Quansah.

"A brilliant team – for the first hour they played like almost no other side at Anfield. The ambitious targets here were clearly explained to me during the negotiations. It's a great role and challenge for me to be part of the current Leverkusen rebuild."

Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes added: "We are very happy to be able to sign Jarell Quansah, one of the most promising English central defenders.

“He made a very impressive contribution to a Liverpool defence full of world-class players. Jarell will give our defence extra dynamism, tempo and strength in winning the ball and he will also be another, very important element of the Werkself of the future.”

Quansah is the second Premier League player this summer to make the move to Leverkusen following goalkeeper Mark Flekken’s transfer from Brentford.

The centre-back is expected to replace Jonathan Tah, who joined Bayern Munich as a free agent after 10 seasons with Leverkusen.

Erik ten Hag will be looking to continue where former head coach Xabi Alonso left off, with Leverkusen, who won a double in 2023-24, finishing second in the Bundesliga last season.

Liverpool, meanwhile, have been linked with Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi.
