Elliott to assess Liverpool future amid World Cup ambitions

Harvey Elliott has his eyes set on Englands 2026 World Cup squad, but he admits it may compromise his future at Liverpool.

Harvey Elliott revealed he “needs to review” his Liverpool future as he aims to make England’s 2026 World Cup squad.

The attacker started just twice in the Premier League last season, making 18 appearances under Arne Slot as the Reds captured their 20th top-flight title.

He also only started once in the Champions League despite scoring three goals in five games, including the winner in their last-16 first leg against Paris Saint-Germain.

Elliott then starred in England’s triumph at the Under-21 Euros. He scored five times in six matches, including a brace against the Netherlands in the last four and the opening goal in the final against Germany.

The 22-year-old acknowledged that if he is to make Thomas Tuchel’s senior squad next year, he may need to call time on his Liverpool career.

“If I had my way, I’d be at Liverpool for the rest of my career,” Elliott told The Anfield Wrap.

“I love everything about the club, but at the same time I kind of need to be selfish and see what’s best for me.

“I have big ambitions. I want to go to the World Cup. It’s still something I need to review”

The Reds have already made big additions to their squad, most notably Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike in the attacking department.

They also continue to be linked with an audacious swoop for Alexander Isak, who has reportedly informed Newcastle United that he wishes to explore a transfer.

Isak – who scored 23 Premier League goals last term – is reportedly unwilling to sign a new deal at St James' Park, with Al-Hilal also touted as a possible suitor.

Club captain Virgil van Dijk insisted that Liverpool are just focused on themselves and working hard for another league title.

“We've made great additions to the team so far, let's see what happens for the rest of the transfer window,” said Van Dijk.

“It's all down to hard work and focusing on ourselves. We're all in this together.

“It is good to have him [Ekitike] here. I said to him the hard work starts now, he has to work his socks off and be important for us whenever he can.”
