Union Berlin 1-1 Bayern Munich: Kompany's side surrender another lead in Bundesliga

Jaa

Bayern Munich surrendered another winning position in Bundesliga, as they were pegged back for a second successive weekend.

Bayern Munich dropped Bundesliga points for the second week running, as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Union Berlin.

Benedict Hollerbach cancelled out Leroy Sane's opener to ensure a share of the spoils at Stadion An der Alten Forsterei.

Following a low-key first half, Bayern - who lost 3-2 from 2-0 up against lowly Bochum last weekend - survived a couple of scares after the restart.

Joshua Kimmich, who signed a new contract earlier this week, almost diverted beyond goalkeeper Jonas Urbig, who denied Josip Juranovic soon after.

However, Vincent Kompany's side struck the opener with a quarter of an hour remaining, as substitute Sane smashed past Frederik Ronnow from Josip Stanisic's cutback.

But the Bundesliga leaders could not hold onto their advantage, with Hollerbach volleying home Juranovic's cross to snatch a point for the hosts.

Data Debrief: Bayern let another lead slip

Though disappointed not to win, Bayern extended their unbeaten record against Union to 12 Bundesliga matches, the most times they have faced another side in the German top flight without losing.

Sane broke the deadlock with Bayern's 14th goal via a substitute in Bundesliga this season, more than any other team.

However, for only the second time when scoring first on the road in the league this term, Kompany's side were unable to convert their advantage into a victory.

That will encourage second-place Bayer Leverkusen, who can reduce the deficit at the summit to six points by beating Stuttgart on Sunday.
