'Truly incredible and sensational' – Jorginho revels in Copa Libertadores triumph
A European Championship winner with Italy and Champions League winner with Chelsea, Jorginho has added yet another honour to his collection.
Jorginho revelled in Flamengo's "truly incredible and sensational" Copa Libertadores triumph, as the decorated midfielder added more silverware to his glittering collection.
The former Italy international won his first honour with the Brazilian giants since arriving in June from Arsenal, as they edged out compatriots Palmeiras 1-0 on Saturday.
Danilo scored the only goal in Lima as Flamengo claimed their fourth Copa title, becoming the most successful Brazilian side in the competition's history.
It represented the latest honour in the decorated career of European Championship and Champions League winner Jorginho, who has also won the Club World Cup and the Europa League.
The 33-year-old became the 18th different player to win both the Champions League and Copa Libertadores.
"Truly incredible and sensational," he said. "It's something that's hard to explain. You have to experience it.
"It's very impactful, no doubt, not only for me, but for everyone who was there. It was truly surreal, and it definitely gives you extra energy and motivation."
Meanwhile, Flamengo boss Filipe Luis became the ninth man to win the competition as both a player and a coach, having also been part of the side that triumphed in 2019 and 2022.
"If you ask me whether I expected [to win], of course I did," the head coach added. "In my life, I've always thought about winning titles, I've always thought big.
"I am very grateful to Flamengo. The club has given the coach the chance to fight for titles, thanks to the quality, investment and organisation it has. Today, we were able to play a Libertadores final, and I feel privileged."
