Brazilian midfielder Philippe Coutinho has joined his boyhood club Vasco da Gama on a permanent deal from Aston Villa.

Philippe Coutinho has completed a permanent transfer to Vasco da Gama from Aston Villa.

The 33-year-old has signed a one-year contract with his boyhood club, having already spent the last season on loan at the Brazilian side.

The former Liverpool midfielder initially joined Villa on loan in January 2022 from Barcelona before making the move permanent four months later. He last played for Villa in August 2023.

During his time in the Premier League with Villa and Liverpool, he scored 47 goals and registered 38 assists in 193 games.

His most prolific season came in the 2016-17 campaign, with only Dele Alli (18) scoring more goals from midfield than Coutinho (13).

The Brazilian also had spells at Inter, Espanyol, Bayern Munich and Al-Duhail before returning to his native country.

Coutinho, who has scored 13 goals for Vasco in 88 games, said: "Renewing my contract with Vasco is a moment of great happiness.

"Vasco is my home. It is the place where I was raised, studied, grew up and where my family and I love.

"May it be a year of hard work wearing this shirt and with my team-mates – said the young player."
