Despite enduring their worst Premier League campaign and a European final defeat, Manuel Ugarte trusts Ruben Amorim at Manchester United.

Manuel Ugarte insisted Manchester United players still believe in head coach Ruben Amorim heading into the new season.

Amorim replaced Erik ten Hag last season after the Dutch coach was sacked in October 2024. However, it did not change United’s fortunes for the rest of the season.

They finished 15th in the league, their worst Premier League campaign to date, and were defeated by Tottenham in the Europa League final in May.

Ugarte started 22 of his 29 league appearances last season, directly contributing to three goals (one goal, two assists) and winning 63.6% of his tackles in the process.

The midfielder, who also worked with Amorim at Sporting CP, called for patience after several changes were made at the club last season.

“We have to improve things,” said Ugarte.

“We are all very motivated, because we believe in the coach, we believe in what he wants and that is very important.

“Last year we made some changes, we changed our coach, we changed our formation.

“You have to have responsibilities when you play for United. Sometimes the connections take time to get to know each other. I already know the league, the rivals, which is important.”

The Red Devils have a tricky start to their 2025-26 campaign, hosting Arsenal in their opening match before visiting Fulham and Manchester City in their next three games.
