Chelsea finished as runners-up in Group D after earning a comfortable 3-0 win over ES Tunis at the Club World Cup.

Liam Delap scored his first goal for Chelsea, helping them cruise to a 3-0 victory over ES Tunis and reach the last 16 of the Club World Cup on Tuesday.

All three of Chelsea's goals were scored in stoppage time at the end of either half, with the Blues finishing second in Group D.

Enzo Maresca's side struggled to create clear-cut openings early on, with Josh Acheampong's off-balance long-range strike their best chance, though Bechir Ben Said got down well to push it away.

Enzo Fernandez then picked out Tosin Adarabioyo with a floated free-kick in the third minute of first-half stoppage time, with the defender cushioning his header back across goal into the bottom-right corner.

Two minutes later, Delap gave Chelsea some breathing space. Fernandez chipped the ball into his feet, and the striker turned his defender before passing his shot into the back of the net.

Noni Madueke then curled a low effort past the left post in the second half, but Tyrique George got their third in the 97th minute. He fired a low drive on goal from the edge of the D, and though Ben Said got a strong hand to it, the ball looped up and bounced over the line.

Chelsea finished the group on six points, and will face Benfica in the round of 16, after the Portuguese side earned a shock win over Bayern Munich earlier on Tuesday to top Group C.

Flamengo sit top of Group D, having come from behind to draw 1-1 with Los Angeles FC. They will face Bayern in the next round.

Data Debrief: Delap off the mark

After giving up a lead against Flamengo in a 3-1 defeat last time out, Chelsea looked a lot more comfortable as they secured their place in the next round.

A two-goal cushion at the break gave them the cushion they wanted. Delap had just 19 touches overall, though he made an impact, netting from his second shot.

Chelsea, overall, had 16 shots on goal and overperformed their 1.31 expected goals (xG), while scoring two of their three big chances.

They limited ES Tunis to just three shots worth 0.07 xG. In fact, none of the Tunisian side's efforts came from inside the box, the first time the Blues have not allowed a shot in their box in a match in all competitions since May 2022 against Leicester City.
