LA Galaxy v Colorado Rapids: Steffen praises 'amazing additions' Cobb and Holding

Bagikan

The Colorado Rapids can further cement their playoff position in the Western Conference when they face LA Galaxy this weekend.

Colorado Rapids goalkeeper Zack Steffen labelled the defensive signings of Rob Holding and Noah Cobb as "amazing additions".

Holding joined the Rapids as a free agent following a disappointing stint with Crystal Palace, which saw him fail to make a single Premier League appearance for the Eagles.

The English centre-back has now obtained his visa and is available for training and selection.

Twenty-year-old Cobb, on the other hand, is on loan with Colorado from Atlanta United and has already played 90 minutes in their wins over Minnesota United and his parent club.

The Rapids are currently seventh in the Western Conference and face bottom side LA Galaxy in their next match.

Steffen believes their two new defensive signings can help them be more competitive in the league, saying: "Amazing additions to the locker room.

"Obviously, Rob has not trained yet so I'm excited to see him get going and see what he is like on the pitch. But off the pitch, Rob is class.

"Such a good dude and just wants to be a part of the boys and support and everything. He has been very vocal already, which has been amazing.

"Noah, the same, has come in and played very well. First training [session] I could hear him on the pitch right in front of me, which was amazing.

"Just communicating and leading the boys in the backline, confident on the ball, wants to play. I've been really happy and pleased with Noah. He has played well so those two additions have been great and exactly what we need."

The Galaxy's struggles in the league continued following a 3-1 defeat to Inter Miami and 4-0 loss to the Seattle Sounders.

They did, however, gain some momentum in their last match after defeating Pachuca in the Leagues Cup to reach the semi-final of the competition.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

LA Galaxy – Joseph Paintsil

Joseph Paintsil is the Galaxy's joint-top scorer in MLS this season with five goals, but his recent form has been pivotal for his side.

The winger has either scored or assisted in six of his last 10 games in all competitions, directly contributing to nine goals in that time (seven goals, two assists).

Colorado Rapids – Rafael Navarro

Rafael Navarro has been the most prolific player for Colorado, netting on 11 occasions while also providing four assists.

Navarro has also scored 26 goals over the last two seasons (15 in 2024, 11 in 2025). Only Conor Casey (27 in 2008-09 and 29 in 2009-10) has managed more goals for the Rapids in a two-season span in club history.

MATCH PREDICTION – LA GALAXY WIN

After winning just two of their previous 10 regular-season matches (D2 L6), Colorado have won back-to-back league matches. This is Colorado's third two-match winning streak of the season, though they have not managed three straight league wins in 2025.

The Galaxy's 3-1 defeat to Miami last time out was the club's 16th loss of the season. The only teams to lose more matches the year after winning the MLS Cup are D.C. United in 2000 and Toronto FC in 2018 (18 each).

Colorado snapped a five-match winless run against the Galaxy with a 2-0 victory in June. The Rapids have defeated the Galaxy multiple times in a single season just once since 2017, winning both meetings in the 2019 season.

OPTA WIN PROBABILITY

LA Galaxy – 48.5%

Draw – 25.8%

Colorado Rapids – 25.7%
