Glasner says Palace have broken promises on early transfer business

Crystal Palace have only made two signings and could lose Eberechi Eze, with Oliver Glasner admitting concerns about their transfer window.

Oliver Glasner has hit out at Crystal Palace's lack of transfer activity, claiming the FA Cup winners have broken a promise to get their business done earlier in the window.

Glasner delivered the first major trophy in Palace's history last season, as Eberechi Eze's goal and Dean Henderson's penalty save saw them beat Manchester City 1-0 in the FA Cup final.

Palace will now compete in Europe for the very first time, though they are waiting to see if they will feature in the Europa League or Conference League, having appealed against their expulsion from the former competition due to a breach of multi-club ownership rules.

The Eagles signed Croatia left-back Borna Sosa from Ajax in a £3m (€2.3m) deal earlier this month, but free agent goalkeeper Walter Benitez is their only other incoming thus far.

Palace have seen Joel Ward and Jeffrey Schlupp leave the club, while loanees Matt Turner and Ben Chilwell have returned to their parent clubs.

But more worryingly, star man Eze has been strongly linked with a move to Arsenal, with the England international reportedly having a £67.5m release clause in his contract.

Glasner is concerned about what his squad will look like if any further players depart, with Palace yet to get deals over the line for any of their major targets.

"Even though all the players are still here, we haven't made the most of the transfer window so far," Glasner told Kronen Zeitung.

"I was promised that we would be more active and bring in new players earlier this year. As of now, I have 17 outfield players!

"I hope we don't lose any more. If that happens and we get four new ones on deadline day like last year, another false start is possible."

Last season, Palace failed to win any of their first eight Premier League games before beating Tottenham on October 27, a result that started a run of just two defeats in 14 matches.

By only taking three points from their first eight matches, Palace equalled their joint-worst start to a top-flight campaign (counting three points for a win, also three in 1980-81, 2013-14 and 2017-18), though they recovered to finish 12th.

Palace have been strongly linked with a move for Nice forward Evann Guessand, while their young winger Jesurun Rak-Sakyi is reportedly attracting interest from several clubs.
