Real Madrid claimed a hard-fought 1-0 victory away at Getafe on Sunday, with the win sending Xabi Alonso's side back to the top of LaLiga.

Xabi Alonso heaped praise upon in-form forward Kylian Mbappe after his strike secured Real Madrid a 1-0 victory away at Getafe, which took them back to the LaLiga summit.

Mbappe's 80th-minute goal proved to be the difference as Los Blancos made it eight wins in nine league outings this season.

Mbappe's 10th league goal of the campaign means Madrid have now scored in their last 25 games in LaLiga, their longest run of games with a goal in the competition since another streak of 25 matches from November 2023 to May 2024.

Alonso's side also extended their winning run against Getafe to eight consecutive LaLiga meetings, keeping clean sheets in seven of those victories.

"Coming to Getafe is not easy, you have to know how to compete and show your best face," Alonso said.

"We also know that it may not be the most beautiful match. We were focused and doing what we had to do.

"We had to roll up our sleeves because we knew it wasn't going to be the most spectacular game, and that's how it was.

"It's a win that allows us to start the week with very good energy."

Mbappe's start to the season has seen him surge into the lead as LaLiga's top scorer so far in 2025-26, and the Frenchman has netted a whopping 15 goals in just 11 appearances across all competitions this term.

"I would say that we are very happy with him. He is being decisive with his goals and with his participation," Alonso added.

"But there are many other things behind his goals. They are all important."

Madrid return to the Champions League on Wednesday as they prepare to host Juventus at the Santiago Bernabeu.
