Marquinhos missed out on his 500th PSG outing on Saturday, meaning his landmark moment could come against Tottenham in the Champions League.

Paris Saint-Germain captain Marquinhos could make his 500th appearance for the club when they face Tottenham on Wednesday, and Luis Enrique hopes to get many more years out of the 31-year-old Brazilian.

Marquinhos has played 499 games for the French giants since joining from Roma in 2013, the most in the club's history.

He has contributed to 353 wins and 183 clean sheets in that time, also scoring 42 goals and lifting 35 trophies – including the Champions League last season.

Marquinhos was an unused substitute for Saturday's 3-0 victory over Le Havre in Ligue 1, but if he is deemed fully fit after an injury-interrupted start to the campaign, Luis Enrique will hand the centre-back his landmark appearance against Spurs.

"If Marquinhos is fit, he will play his 500th game, which is an incredible number," the Spaniard told reporters on Tuesday. "It's very important for him and all the players.

"It's nice to see a player walk such an important path. He's a different player, a real leader, he's important and I hope to have him for several more years."

PSG could also have Ballon d'Or winner Ousmane Dembele available, though they plan to exercise caution with the winger's return after he sustained a calf injury in their 2-1 defeat to Bayern Munich prior to the international break.

"We'll see tomorrow. If there is no problem, he will be among the players called up," Luis Enrique said of Dembele.

"Every time there is a return of an injured player, it's difficult to manage that. Of course, we will be even more attentive than usual."

Wednesday's game will be a swift reunion between the teams that contested the UEFA Super Cup in August, with PSG earning a dramatic success on that occasion.

Having trailed 2-0 with just five minutes of the 90 remaining, PSG clawed level through goals from Lee Kang-in and Goncalo Ramos before winning 4-3 in a penalty shoot-out.

Reflecting on that success over Thomas Frank's Spurs, Luis Enrique said: "It was a match in special conditions.

"A good memory because it ended well, but a bad memory if I think back to the first 60 minutes, when we were in trouble!

"We are more ready to be a dominant team and to win the match. But if you analyse Tottenham individually, the players are mostly internationals, they are a strong team."

Champions League holders PSG sit fifth in the 36-team standings with nine points from four games, with Spurs a further point back in 10th, as one of five unbeaten sides.
