Borussia Dortmund have won back-to-back Bundesliga games since losing to Bayern Munich, having edged out Augsburg.

Serhou Guirassy ended his four-game Bundesliga goal drought as Borussia Dortmund went second in the table with a hard-earned 1-0 win at Augsburg on Friday.

Guirassy took advantage of a mix-up involving Chrislain Matsima and Han-Noah Massengo late in the first half as BVB moved within four points of leaders Bayern Munich, who will look to continue their perfect start to 2025-26 at home to Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday.

Augsburg forward Mert Komur miscued when presented with the first real opening following a quiet start to the game, before Guirassy struck in the 37th minute.

Waldemar Anton fired a pass towards his striker, and though Matsima was well-placed to incept, he headed against Massengo's chest and the loose ball dropped to Guirassy, who slotted home.

Carney Chukwuemeka fired over early in the second half, while Jobe Bellingham's sliding challenge denied Elvis Rexhbecaj a clean shot at goal at the other end.

But chances remained few and far between until full-time, with both teams managing just one shot on target apiece, as Niko Kovac's side clung on for back-to-back wins.

Data Debrief: Guirassy's mini-drought over

Entering Friday's game, Guirassy was enduring his longest Bundesliga goal drought since returning to the competition when he joined Stuttgart in 2022.

But after a clinical finish past Finn Dahmen, he has five Bundesliga goals this term, with only Harry Kane (12) and Jonathan Bukardt (six) outscoring him in the competition.

BVB have already kept six clean sheets in nine Bundesliga matches this campaign, while Friday's win was only Kovac's third in 13 league games against Augsburg, snapping a three-game losing streak against them.
