Munoz to undergo surgery, Mateta also absent for Palace trip to Shelbourne
Crystal Palace will be without both Daniel Munoz and Jean-Philippe Mateta when they face Shelbourne in the Europa Conference League.
Daniel Munoz is to undergo surgery on a knee injury and Jean-Philippe Mateta has not travelled with Crystal Palace for their Conference League clash at Shelbourne, Oliver Glasner has said.
Wing-back Munoz was absent when the Eagles defeated Fulham 2-1 in the Premier League on Sunday and is now set for a short spell on the sidelines, though Glasner is hopeful it will not be a long-term issue.
Meanwhile, French striker Mateta is also struggling with a knee complaint and Palace boss Glasner did not want to take the risk with his fitness.
However, he is hopeful that Mateta will return to training by the end of the week.
"They both stayed at home. It's bad news," said Glasner, whose side are 18th in the league standings through four games.
"We will miss Dani for a few weeks, he will undergo surgery. JP will rest. We have to manage his knee, so he's stayed at home.
"Always when you undergo surgery, you never know. We are always cautious. It doesn't look so serious. We have 10 games until January 10th, so this is our challenge for this group.
"The plan is that JP will return to training on Friday and then he should be available."
Palace may be making the short trip to Ireland for their latest European venture but Glasner confirmed there is one local delicacy he has absolutely no intention of partaking in while he is there.
"Sorry to everyone, but I don't like Guinness!" Glasner joked.
"I played here many years ago with Austria Under-21s. We lost sadly, I remember. I tried a Guinness afterwards and I didn't like it unfortunately."
