Pedri hands Barcelona fresh injury blow after Clasico defeat
Having lost the Clasico to Real Madrid, Barcelona have had further misery piled on to them after midfield star Pedri sustained an injury.
Barcelona have suffered another significant injury blow after confirming on Wednesday that Pedri will be out for the foreseeable future with a hamstring injury.
Pedri, who was sent off in Barcelona's 2-1 defeat to rivals Real Madrid in Sunday's Clasico after being shown a second yellow card, could miss up to several weeks of action.
The Spain international has enjoyed a fine start to the 2025-26 campaign, providing four goal involvements (two goals, two assists) in 13 appearances in all competitions.
He has also created more chances (29) and played more successful passes (1,012) than any of his team-mates, but his injury may not come as a surprise to many.
Indeed, since Hansi Flick's arrival at Barcelona in May 2024, no player has played more games for the Blaugrana across all competitions than Pedri (72).
"First team player Pedri has suffered a tear in the distal biceps femoris muscle in his left thigh," Barcelona said in a statement. "The player's recovery will dictate his return to action."
It is yet another injury for Barcelona's medical team to deal with in a season that has seen key players such as Gavi, Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, and Dani Olmo sidelined.
However, Lewandowski and Olmo did rejoin the group for training on Wednesday, with the pair having picked up injuries during the October international break.
Barcelona face Elche on Sunday before their Champions League game at Club Brugge next Wednesday. They visit Celta Vigo before the final international window of 2025.
