Just a year after swapping Manchester City for Barcelona, Ellie Roebuck has returned to England after signing for Aston Villa on Tuesday.

Ellie Roebuck has returned to the Women's Super League with Aston Villa following her departure from Barcelona.

Roebuck, who left Manchester City for the Liga F champions last year, has signed a two-year deal with Villa.

The 25-year-old made just two appearances for Barcelona before the two parties agreed to terminate her contract on Monday.

Before making the move to Spain, Roebuck enjoyed a successful eight years with City, winning seven major honours which included three FA Cup triumphs.

She made 136 appearances for the Citizens across all competitions, 90 of which came in the WSL, keeping 42 clean sheets in those matches.

During the 2019-20 season, Roebuck won her first Golden Glove after keeping 10 shutouts in 16 outings.

She also had an 84.8% save percentage, the best in the division of goalkeepers to play over three matches in the competition.

"We are delighted that Ellie will be joining our club," said Villa's director of women's football, Marisa Ewers.

"She is an exciting addition to the team and is a player with a lot of experience who can help drive our performance levels."

Roebuck joins a Villa side who finished sixth in the WSL last season, 19 points adrift of Manchester United in third.

Only Crystal Palace (66) conceded more goals than Villa (44, level with Tottenham Hotspur) in the top flight in 2024-25.
