‘PSG fixture list is like an obstacle course’ – Luis Enrique reflects on Atalanta victory

Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League title defence started with a 4-0 win over Atalanta, but Luis Enrique is wary of the challenges ahead.
Luis Enrique compared Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League fixture list to an obstacle course after their 4-0 win over Atalanta.
Marquinhos scored after just three minutes in their Champions League opener, while Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Nuno Mendes and Goncalo Ramos all got on the scoresheet for the current holders of the competition.
This win extended the Parisian club’s strong record against Italian opposition, now losing just one of their last 12 matches against Serie A teams in major European competitions.
PSG have scored 36 goals across their 11 Champions League games in 2025, with their average of 3.27 goals per match during that time only bettered by Bayern Munich in 2020 (3.36) in the competition’s history over a calendar year.
The Ligue 1 side have a tough schedule in the league phase, with trips to Barcelona and Bayer Leverkusen up next before home matches against Bayern and Tottenham.
With fixtures against Athletic Bilbao, Sporting CP and Newcastle also coming later in their campaign, Luis Enrique is wary of the challenge ahead for PSG.
“I think that it is a very good start that reflects our style of football, against a very good Atalanta side with physical strength and good technique,” Luis Enrique told Sky Sports Italia.
“They press you and cause problems, but we are in very good shape and deserved this victory.
“We hope to go far. Our fixture list is like an obstacle course, but it’s true that if we go back a year, we won our first game in stoppages, and this was much better.
“We were all aware of the importance of starting strong and it was a deserved win.”
