Manchester City moved ahead of Chelsea at the summit of the Women's Super League thanks to a 2-1 win over Everton on Sunday.

Manchester City overcame Everton 2-1 to move ahead of Chelsea at the summit of the Women's Super League.

Having seen Chelsea draw 1-1 with Arsenal, City took advantage by taking all three points at Goodison Park on Sunday.

Star attackers Vivianne Miedema and Khadija Shaw were on target on either side of Kelly Gago pulling one back for the Toffees.

London City Lionesses, meanwhile, moved into the top half with a 4-2 derby defeat of Tottenham.

Freya Godfrey was the star of the show for the Lionesses, as she scored twice and set up another. She opened the scoring in the eighth minute at Copperjax Community Stadium, where Cathinka Tandberg restored parity from the penalty spot before half-time.

Nikita Parris, teed up by Godfrey, put London City back ahead shortly before half-time, but Spurs again hit back, this time through Eveliina Summanen.

Yet Amanda Nilden's own goal saw London City take the lead for the third time, and the hosts then grabbed a decisive fourth when Godfrey doubled her tally in the 84th minute.

Liverpool, meanwhile, remain winless in the league this season, but have their first point after being pegged back to a 1-1 draw by Brighton.

Beata Olsson's 26th-minute effort put the Reds ahead, but after hitting the woodwork twice, Liverpool were made to pay for not adding to their lead when Rosa Kafaji levelled the scores in second-half stoppage time.

There was late drama at West Ham, too, as Leicester City hit back in the 97th minute, with Shannon O'Brien's finish cancelling out Shekiera Martinez's opener in a 1-1 draw.

Data Debrief: Goodison woe for Everton

Everton have now lost their four home matches in the WSL this term. It is just the second time in the competition that the Toffees have gone on such a run at home.

Shaw, who headed in City's winner, has been directly involved in 11 goals in seven WSL appearances against Everton (nine goals, two assists), only managing more in the competition against Tottenham (13). She is the first player in the competition's history to score or assist in each of her first seven appearances against a specific opponent.

It was a dominant display from City, who had 16 shots and accumulated 2.5 expected goals (xG).
