Gonzalez seals season-long loan switch to Atletico from Juventus

Just under two months after Juventus signed Nico Gonzalez on a permanent deal, they have allowed him to join Atletico Madrid on loan.

Atletico Madrid have announced the arrival of versatile Juventus forward Nicolas Gonzalez on a season-long loan deal.

Gonzalez arrives in the Spanish capital to bolster Diego Simeone's attacking ranks, with the deal including an obligation to buy for a reported €34m fee.

The 27-year-old spent the 2024-25 season on loan at Juventus from Fiorentina before completing a permanent €28.1m switch earlier this summer.

He made 38 appearances across all competitions for the Bianconeri, scoring five goals and registering four assists.

Indeed, his nine goal involvements were only bettered by Khephren Thuram, Randal Kolo Muani, Timothy Weah (all 10), Kenan Yildiz (15) and Dusan Vlahovic (20).

Gonzalez becomes the latest name to sign for Atletico, with Simeone's side undergoing a squad overhaul ahead of the 2025-26 campaign.

The Argentina international is Atletico's 11th signing of the summer, following the likes of Alex Baena, David Hancko, Johnny Cardoso and Giacomo Raspadori through the doors at the Metropolitano.

However, Simeone's new-look squad have started their LaLiga campaign poorly, taking just two points from their first three games in the Spanish top flight.

They drew 1-1 with Alaves on Saturday, meaning they failed to win their first three league games of a season for the first time since 2009-10 under Abel Resino.

Gonzalez could be in line to make his Atletico bow against Villarreal on August 13.
