Carlos Augusto scored the winner for Inter in their 2-1 victory over Kairat Almaty in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Carlos Augusto has urged his Inter team-mates to maintain focus after their narrow 2-1 Champions League victory over Kairat Almaty on Wednesday.

Inter extended their perfect European start with a 2-1 win at San Siro, but they suffered a brief scare when Ofri Arad nodded home in the second half to cancel out Lautaro Martinez's opener.

Arad's unlikely goal marked the first time Inter have conceded in this season's Champions League, snapping their clean-sheet streak in the competition.

Before Wednesday's match, Inter had won nine of their previous 10 Champions League group-stage games without conceding, and were the only side to record 10 clean sheets in group or league-phase matches since the start of last season.

Augusto eventually restored Inter's advantage in the 67th minute with a crisp, low finish from distance to seal the win, but the Brazilian insisted that Inter's performance left much to be desired.

"I had warned [on Tuesday], there are no easy games in the Champions League," he told Amazon Prime Video.

"We needed to approach this better; the important thing was to win. I was able to score, but the important thing is that we got the three points.

"We need to prove ourselves every single time we set foot on the pitch.

"We must be more concentrated. We still created chances and should've made more of them, but there were also too many mistakes.

"Everyone thinks these matches are meant to be easy and should finish 5-0, but that's not the case in modern football. The important thing was getting the result."

The victory means Inter have now begun a European Cup/Champions League campaign with four consecutive wins for the first time in the club's history.

The Nerazzurri have also now won 10 of their last 11 matches against first-time Champions League opponents, with the only exception being a 5-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in last season's final.

When asked about the frustrated reaction of head coach Cristian Chivu on the touchline, Augusto said he understood the manager's stance.

"It's quite right that he is tense; he wants us to be fully concentrated at all times," the midfielder confessed.

"We were too sluggish in the first half, but we still created chances. We scored twice, but can certainly improve."
