England and Australia are meeting for the first time since the 2023 Women's World Cup semi-finals, when the Lionesses were 3-1 winners.

Ella Toone thinks England's friendly with Australia will "feel like a revenge game" when they collide on Tuesday.

The two nations are meeting at Pride Park for the first time since their 2023 Women's World Cup semi-final showdown, when the Lionesses prevailed 3-1 to deny the tournament hosts' hearts in Sydney.

Sarina Wiegman's side are also aiming to bounce from Saturday's 2-1 defeat against Brazil, in what was their first match since successfully defending their European Championship crown in July.

And Toone has urged her team-mates to respond in a positive manner.

"We broke a lot of their hearts at the World Cup, so it will feel like a revenge game," she said. "For us, we just want to go out there and put on a big performance.

"It's difficult when you lose a game, but there's another one right around the corner to put it right. We know it will be difficult.

"There are no friendlies in football. We want to win every game. We want to perform well and, hopefully, get the win."

England will be facing a lot of familiar faces, with 11 players from Australia's squad plying their trade in the Women's Super League, while the Matildas are also coached by former Arsenal boss Joe Montemurro.

"I think it gives you more of an insight of what those players bring on the pitch," Toone added. "You know the strengths and weaknesses of each player.

"But I don't think it changes it too much. You are stepping out on to the pitch to put 100% in no matter who it is."

"I'm just really excited we play Australia again," Wiegman continued. "They are a top-level team, and they will challenge us in the way we want to be.

"Of course, it's a non-European team, but so many players play against each other here in the WSL, so they know each other really well."
