Bonmati set to join Spain squad after release from hospital

Aitana Bonmati was a doubt for Spain's Euro 2025 opener after being diagnosed with viral meningitis, but she is now set to join their squad.
Aitana Bonmati will join Spain's Euro 2025 squad in the coming days, having been discharged from hospital after being diagnosed with viral meningitis.
Bonmati missed Spain's final warm-up match ahead of the tournament in Switzerland, as they beat Japan 3-1 in a friendly on Friday.
The Barcelona midfielder – a two-time Ballon d'Or Feminin winner – was subsequently revealed to have been treated for viral meningitis.
That threw her chances of featuring in Spain's opening Group B fixture – versus Portugal on Thursday – into doubt.
However, the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has now confirmed the 27-year-old has left hospital and will link up with her team-mates shortly.
A statement from the RFEF read: "After several days in hospital with viral meningitis, Aitana Bonmati has been discharged from hospital and will join the Spanish National Team's training camp in the coming days."
Bonmati has won 78 caps for La Roja, scoring 30 goals. She is seventh on her country's all-time appearances list, with Barcelona team-mate Alexia Putellas first with 132 caps.
Only six players have scored more goals for Spain; Jennifer Hermoso (57), Veronica Boquete (38), Sonia Bermudez, Putellas (both 34), Adriana Martin and Esther Gonzalez (both 33).
