Bryan Mbeumo had his pick of several clubs, but he decided to go to Manchester United after a friendly conversation with Ruben Amorim.

Bryan Mbeumo has revealed he chose to join Manchester United after a “very friendly conversation” with head coach Ruben Amorim.

The Cameroon international scored 20 goals and registered eight assists for Brentford in the Premier League last season, with only Mohamed Salah (47) and Alexander Isak (29) directly contributing to more goals during the 2024-25 campaign.

Mbeumo was heavily linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur earlier in the window following their appointment of former Bees boss Thomas Frank, while Champions League qualifiers Newcastle United were also said to be interested in the forward.

The 25-year-old eventually joined the Red Devils for a reported £71m fee after hearing about their project and Amorim’s vision for the club.

“I spoke to some other managers because I wanted to hear their projects but the Manchester United one was very good for me,” said Mbeumo.

“Manchester United is a big club. I think it's a great opportunity and I chose the project. I think I'm someone who likes a challenge. There is a very good project in Manchester and I wanted to be part of it.

“It was a very friendly conversation and a constructive one. He explained his project to me, what he wanted to do and I really clicked on that.

“He said, 'we are people who like winning, and we want to be the best team,' and of course, that's what we will try to do.

“I was obviously on my holidays, so I just wanted to think about resting mentally and physically and if it was going to happen, it was going to happen. I trust my people and I was convinced that it was going to happen.”
