Tudor urges Juventus not to sell Yildiz

Kenan Yildiz continued his fine run of form for Juventus against Wydad AC last time out, earning praise from head coach Igor Tudor.

Juventus head coach Igor Tudor urged the club not to sell their best players, such as in-form Kenan Yildiz.

Yildiz scored twice in Juve's 4-1 win over Wydad AC on Sunday, taking his Club World Cup goals tally to three.

The 20-year-old’s double against the Moroccan side meant he has now scored in three consecutive games for Juventus in all competitions for the first time.

The Turkish forward’s run of goals has also positively impacted the Italian giants, who have scored 14 times in their last four games, as many as their previous 14.

And Tudor is determined to see Juve keep the youngster.

“Kenan [Yildiz] we spoke a lot about him, he's a great lad, he loves football and wants to play all the time,” Tudor told DAZN.

“The key is in your head, between the ears, that's where you find quality in a player.

“Then it's clear that legs and running are also important; however, for a player occupying those spaces, it's always hard to have that quality, while even running like a true midfielder, that's a rare gift.

“A club like us must never sell the best players; it can happen rarely, but I believe that's not the case now, he's still young, he still has to grow and he can still improve; also, it's not good for him that we talk about this stuff, he must focus on trainings and games, the less you think about the future the better.”

Juve are top of Group G, meaning a draw against Manchester City next time out would see them take first place.

The final fixtures of Group G will take place on June 26, with the team finishing second likely to play Real Madrid in the next round.

An Abdelmounaim Boutouil own goal and a late effort from Dusan Vlahovic completed the scoring for Juve against Wydad.

Juve had only nine shots, with three of those on target, but their 2.64 expected goals suggests those chances were of a high quality.

Tudor added: “It was a different kind of match, also because of the kick-off time and the tempo was lower. They had prepared for us as well. We scored early, and that helped us; in football, you never know, you always have to stay alert.

“I’m never calm, not even at 3-1 or 4-1 – I always see danger. Credit to the boys, two good wins. Tonight they’ll have an evening off and a dinner out – they’ve earned it. Now we prepare for City. A great challenge.”
