Philadelphia Union extend winning streak over Red Bulls to move to Eastern summit
Having lost their previous two, Philadelphia Union rediscovered that winning feeling in MLS and extended an impressive record in doing so.
The Philadelphia Union bounced back from consecutive defeats to increase their winning streak over rivals New York Red Bulls to 15 matches, with a 2-0 triumph at Subaru Park on Saturday.
Goals from Indiana Vassilev and Bruno Damiani inside the opening 25 minutes settled the contest, with the Union's run against New York stretching across all competitions and dating back to 2019.
It also sees the Union go top of the Eastern Conference, having lost to Nashville SC and the Columbus Crew in their previous two outings.
Head coach Bradley Carnell said after the win: "Really happy with the result tonight.
"I think it was a good bounce back from the last couple of games, where we didn't quite show our true selves.
"Tonight, we wanted to be a little more expressive, a little more of who we are and what we are. I think you saw that in abundance tonight. I'm really proud of the boys for their application and the way they went about their business.
"I think a 2-0 scoreline is very deserving and one to enjoy for 24 hours."
FC Cincinnati dropped to second in the standings after succumbing to a 4-2 home defeat to Columbus, who are now fourth.
Pavel Bucha and Evander had the hosts off to a flier with both on target inside five minutes, but Diego Rossi and Maximillian Arfsten netted late in the first half to restore parity before a Miles Robinson own goal and last-gasp Taba Habroune strike sealed the comeback.
In the Western Conference, Anders Dreyer was on target twice as table-toppers San Diego FC were 2-1 victors at the Chicago Fire.
Minnesota United, meanwhile, are second after routing the San Jose Earthquakes 4-1.
