'It's a childhood dream' Norgaard signs for Arsenal

Christian Norgaard is Arsenal's third signing of the transfer window already, having put pen to paper on a two-year deal at the Emirates.

Christian Norgaard says he has achieved a "childhood dream" after joining Arsenal from Brentford.

Norgaard has signed a two-year contract with the option of an additional year, in a deal reportedly worth £10m plus £5m in add-ons.

The Dane joined Brentford in May 2019 and went on to make 196 appearances in all competitions, scoring 13 goals and 18 assists.

He was part of the team that earned promotion to the Premier League for the first time in May 2021. Norgaard also scored in Brentford’s first match in the competition – a 2-0 victory over Arsenal.

"You can get almost emotional because maybe it was a dream that I've given a little bit up on coming towards the later stage in my career," Norgaard told the Arsenal website.

"I've just turned 31 and had signed a new deal with Brentford.

"Of course, there's always a little chance that a miracle could happen with Brentford, but it was probably unrealistic to play Champions League with them.

"Now, I get to hear the anthem and be a part of a Champions League campaign. It's a childhood dream and something I didn't think would be possible. So, it's something I'm really, really happy about."

In 34 league appearances last season, Norgaard completed 1,153 of his 1,394 passes, with only Nathan Collins (1,693) completing more for the Bees.

He also made 79 tackles, a figure only bettered by Mikkel Damsgaard, though no other Brentford player won more than his 49.

"He is an international player with a wealth of experience of the Premier League," Mikel Arteta said of Norgaard.

"He has proven leadership skills and a strong character, which will be invaluable to our squad.

"He is a strong midfielder with excellent tactical awareness and versatility. He also has physical presence and intelligence, which will give us added depth and balance.

"Christian will bring a lot to the group both on and off the pitch, and we are excited to start working with him in this next chapter of his career."

Norgaard is Arsenal's third signing of the transfer window, following Kepa Arrizabalaga and Martin Zubimendi.

Arsenal are also reportedly working on deals for Crystal Palace's Eberechi Eze and Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP.
