Aston Villa did it the hard way versus West Ham and Unai Emery hailed the character of his side after a 10th win in 11 Premier League games.

Unai Emery hailed his Aston Villa side for the way they are responding to adversity after coming from behind again to defeat West Ham 3-2 on Sunday.

The Villans twice went behind at the London Stadium with Mateus Fernandes and Jarrod Bowen efforts cancelled out by Konstantinos Mavropanos' own goal and a sublime Morgan Rogers double.

Villa started the month by fighting back from two goals down to defeat Brighton, and followed it up with 2-1 victories over Arsenal and Basel in games where they had initially surrendered the lead.

But Emery is thrilled with the character shown by his side, who are third in the table and only three points adrift of Premier League leaders Arsenal.

"We needed to keep calm and be consistent and demanding in our game plan. We did everything," Emery told Match of the Day.

"I like how the players are responding, how they are getting the challenges we are sending in the dressing room, but now everything is done, and we go again."

Rogers' second was a wonderful, dipping effort that left Alphonse Areola stranded. On that goal, Emery added: "I believe in their qualities and their confidence, so, of course, shoot."

This game marked just the second time Villa have ended on the winning side in a Premier League game, having fallen behind twice, with the previous instance coming back in September 2013 at home to Manchester City.

Moreover, they have won 10 of their past 11 Premier League games (L1), including each of the last six, their outright longest-ever winning streak in the competition.

Asked about Villa's chances in the title race as a result, match-winner Rogers said: "We're not looking at that at all.

"People were talking about relegation before, so we are not talking about that. It is about being as consistent as possible. At the moment, we are in a great run, so let's see where that takes us.

"We need to work on our starts because there will be times when we don't have enough to get back into the game.

"We kept our composure and responded pretty quickly, but you don't want to start like that if you can help it."

On his winning goal, he added: "I'm pretty confident right now, scoring a few lately. If I score, and we win, then I am happy. I want to score as much as possible and help the team."
