'This club is for winners', warns Colwill to Chelsea's new arrivals

After a promising 2024-25 season, Chelsea have added fresh names to their squad, with Levi Colwill urging them to build on their success.

Levi Colwill warned Chelsea's new additions that the club is "for winners only" ahead of the Blues' Club World Cup quarter-final against Palmeiras.

Enzo Maresca's team continued their summer spending by announcing the arrival of Joao Pedro from Brighton on Wednesday, joining for a reported £60m transfer fee.

The Brazilian, who has penned a seven-year deal at Stamford Bridge, is Chelsea's sixth addition, and he could feature at the ongoing tournament in the United States.

Chelsea have already signed Liam Delap, Dario Essugo, Mamadou Sarr and Kendry Paez, while Estevao Willian will join from Palmeiras once the Club World Cup ends.

The Blues have also reportedly had a £55m (€63.5m) bid accepted for Borussia Dortmund's Jamie Gittens, though he would not be able to feature for them in the competition.

Colwill was a key part of a successful first season under Maresca, which resulted in sealing Champions League football and lifting the Europa Conference League title.

The 22-year-old started 35 of Chelsea's 38 Premier League games in 2024-25 and made his first appearance for new England boss Thomas Tuchel last month.

And when asked whether a new culture was building at the club, Colwill believed there was, but urged players both new and old not to get too comfortable.

"I'd definitely say so, but at the same time, we all know how big this club is and how the culture of the club has always been to win," Colwill said.

"We're just trying to reinforce that to the young boys, to the boys coming in, that this club is for winners only.

"That's what we all need to do and strive towards. That's what we want to do together.

"Anyone that comes to Chelsea knows the history of the club. They know they are coming here to only win.

"We've got a great team and everyone's on the same wavelength to try and win. The fans are the main thing. We feel their energy when we are playing.

"We know what they want to do, and they want to win. They will never let us forget that.

"They are going to push us to try and win things for them, for the club, and they are the biggest thing that can remind us of where this club once was."
